Finger Authentication L0 Biometric Devices are Replaced with L1 RD Fingerprint Scanner

A Major change done by UIDAI, all L0 Biometric RD Devices will stop working in major Aadhar Authentication Applications like AEPS, eKYC and Attendance.

All the existing deployed fingerprint L0 RD would be phased out of the authentication ecosystem in a gradual manner. To provide sufficient period for this transition, it has been decided that use of all the existing fingerprint L0 RD will be discontinued by 30-06-2024 and thereafter only fingerprint L1 RD will be allowed to perform Aadhaar based authentications

L1 Registered Device - UIDAI

• The rejection rate will decrease as the L1 Sensor is much better than the Old L0 Optical sensor.

• L1 Capacitive sensor can read the Biometrics at a much faster rate with enhanced accuracy therefore resulting in less rejection or mismatching of user's biometrics

The L1 fingerprint authentication is the strongly protected form of authentication method operated through end-user devices. It is mainly used for high throughput content service applications such as banking, modifying data in smart cards, password updates, and stock and finance management. It is the future of end-device-based authentication to access online services. The technology is ideal for authenticating multiple users accessing the same data.

The L1 fingerprint scanner is a unique feature that makes it different from other types. Even with a small capture area, the L1 fingerprint can read more details from the finger. Besides reading the curves and turning in the fingerprint ridges, L1 fingerprint sensors read the location of pores with high accuracy.
